Manchester City Premiership Champions

Sheikh Mansour invested
Many millions of pounds
And brought the best players
To the Etihad ground

The players soon started
To play with aplomb
Pretty soon one forgot

QPR, they were fighting

Anna Jarvis, daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis, who had moved from Grafton, West Virginia, to Philadelphia, in 1890, was the force behind the official establishment of Mother’s Day.

In 1905 at her mother’s gravesite she dedicated her life to honouring mothers, living and dead with a special day, Mother’s Day.

In 1907 she passed out 500 white carnations at her mother’s church, St. Andrew’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia – one for each mother in the congregation.

On May 10, 1908, St. Andrew’s church in Grafton, West Virginia was the first church to respond to her request for a Sunday service honouring mothers.

Next season they will join Norwich and Swansea as new boys who are shaking up the Premier league and giving some of the old clubs something to think about.

The emphasis is slanted too heavily on the top 5 clubs and fresh blood will be welcomed next season.

Meanwhile the blockbuster, and one of the most important matches in the Premiership is set for Monday in Manchester.
The anticipation is bubbling over as the two giant clubs go head to head.

The winner of this local derby will be … Manchester!
Over the next few seasons Manchester will be a very busy place, especially on a weekend.

The clubs going down have a whole summer to rue their mistakes and plan for their return to this prestigious league.

However, there is only room for 20 clubs in the Premier League and it’s apparent which ones are going to follow Wolverhampton (already relegated). They are, inevitably Blackburn, Bolton or QPR.

Chealsea on the brink

Chelsea have come alive at the end of the season. They are on track and well prepared for their Champions League final against Bayern Munich after thrashing QPR 6-1 on Sunday.
Roberto Di Matteo has instilled confidence in his team and they are looking like champions again.

Good to see Torres smiling again after scoring a hatrick against QPR.

An estimated 37,500 fun runners, amateur athletes, celebrities and Olympic sportsmen and women are taking part in the 32nd Virgin London Marathon.

Wilson Kipsang from Kenya won the elite men’s marathon (2hrs:04mins) and Mary Keitany, also from Kenya, defended her title.

The men’s wheelchair race was won by David Weir, his sixth victory, and Britain’s Shelly Woods won the women’s event.

More than 100 people were attempting to break world records during the race.

The London Marathon

26 greulling miles t’is hard and demanding

My costume is heavy, claustrophobic and wet
I’m dressed like a teddy just for a bet

Chelsea beat Tottenham at Wembley to set up the FA cup final against Liverpool on May 5th.

Chelsea scored first after a delightful strike by Didier Drogba but until the second goal which was controversial, Totttenham were still in the game.

The call for video technology resounded loud and clear as the second goal awarded by the referee did not appear to cross the Tottenham goal line.

After the second goal Tottenham resigned and Chelsea ran riot. Chelsea drew on the experience of Lampard, Terry and Drogba to drain Tottenham of their usual zest and excitement.

Next challenge for Roberto di Matteo’s side
The Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Clubs and players are shouting out for VT but it could be a very expensive proposition for most clubs as several cameras and technicians will have to be used to monitor each game.

The given time for fixing the problem was

But at 23.00pm April 6th the power went off again.

Chelsea are on the brink of the Champions League semi-finals just weeks after their European campaign seemed forlorn.

They have also reopened talks with Porto over their long standing interest in forward Hulk.

Chelsea used the Champions League trip to Portugal to hold further talks with Benfica’s bitter rivals with a view to agreeing a fee for the Brazil player.

Both clubs are haggling over the big money summer move for Hulk
who has an £85million release clause written into his contract.

Its obvious that Chelsea did not learn lessons about players and their value after the Torres affair.

How do you get your investment back in 5 years when you spend £85 million on a player?

That’s a whopping £17 million plus wages Chelsea would need to recoup each year.

You could buy all but the top six Premiership teams for that sort of money.

Dark clouds still hang over the Premiership as long as clubs are prepared to pay these sums for players.

World Water Day has been observed on 22 March since 1993 when the United Nations General Assembly declared the 22 March as World Day for Water.

In the UK the average household water used for washing and drinking is about 150 litres a day per person, but we consume about 30 times as much in “virtual water”, used in the production of imported food and textiles.

If we consider virtual water, then we each consume about 4,645 litres a day;
Only Brazil, Mexico, Japan, China and Italy come higher in the league of net importers of virtual agricultural water. People in poorer countries typically subsist on 1,000 litres of virtual water a day;
Different diets have different water footprints.
Vegetarians use approximately 2,000 litres of virtual water whilst people on a meat and dairy-based diet consume about 5,000 litres of virtual water.

What can you do to contribute to WWD?

It’s easy to ignore the plight of the people on the other side of the world who don’t have access to clean water – because we take our water for granted.
It comes from one of the many taps in our homes, all fresh and clean.

Since 1940 the world’s water use has quadrupled whilst the world’s population has only doubled.
Women spend 200 million hours a day collecting water.

Water is used to make every product on Earth. As a consequence, all factories, businesses and all business sectors depend on it in some way.

Water, energy and food are intrinsically linked as water is needed to produce the power/energy required for food production.

Marks & Spencer is working with WWF to calculate the water footprint of its entire food and clothing ranges. M&S’s technical director, David Gregory, said the availability of water over the next decade was already a key part of the company’s strategic decisions about where to source food for its stores.

The retailer is auditing the water footprint of five key crops – strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes and roses – to establish where and how they should be grown in the next few years to make best use of water resources.

The WWF report identifies Spain, northern African countries including Egypt and Morocco, South Africa, Israel, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as countries which face acute water stress and yet supply the UK with substantial exports of their water.

Water for use in industry

After agriculture, industry is the second largest user of water. However, the amount of water used varies widely from one type of industry to another.
