An estimated 37,500 fun runners, amateur athletes, celebrities and Olympic sportsmen and women are taking part in the 32nd Virgin London Marathon.

Wilson Kipsang from Kenya won the elite men’s marathon (2hrs:04mins) and Mary Keitany, also from Kenya, defended her title.

The men’s wheelchair race was won by David Weir, his sixth victory, and Britain’s Shelly Woods won the women’s event.

More than 100 people were attempting to break world records during the race.

The London Marathon

26 greulling miles t’is hard and demanding
Four hours later and I’m still running
My costume is heavy, claustrophobic and wet
I’m dressed like a teddy just for a bet

Each step is a challenge to subdue the pain
My focus is all on what I will gain
The money i’ll raise is for charity
That’s the main thing which helps to drive me

Thirty seven thousand all pounding the road
Some are great athletes, others do it for gold
There are crowds everywhere they clamour to see
If they can spot a celebrity

The race is amazing, the runners so fleet
Striding with ease on this marathon feat
Oh! Look up ahead there’s the finish line
I could keep on going but I need to recline
