Liverpool United has new owner John W Henry

Oct 16, 2010 1 Comment by

John W Henry is an American (hedge fund manager) whose company New England Sports Ventures has invested £300million ($500 million) in Liverpool Football Club. John W Henry also owns the Boston Red Sox in America.
NESV will take control at Anfield after American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett were defeated in their legal fight to prevent the buy-out.
Liverpool’s debt this morning (October 15th) included over £240M to RBS, over £144M to Tom Hicks and Mill Financial, and the possibility of a further £60M.
A cloud of administration and a 9 points deduction loomed heavily over the football club.
But NESV (New England Sports Ventures) have cleared the acquisition debt with RBS and Tom Hicks and Mill Financial (who took over George Gillett’s debt) both lose over £70M each.
Hicks and Gillett bought the club for £174m in 2007.

Tom Hicks believes that he has been a victim of an organised internet conspiracy led by the board, Martin Broughton(Chairman) and RBS. Hicks believes he was swindled and intends to pursue £1billion damages over what he perceives as an “illegal” deal.

Tom Melsheimer, the Lawyers for the former owners vow to outline facts on behalf of Hicks an Gillett in court.

John W Henry gave a brief press conference
“I am proud and humbled. I can’t tell you how happy I am. We’re here to win.”
“We regard our role as that of stewards for the club with a primary focus on returning the club to greatness on and off the field for the long-term.
“We are committed first and foremost to winning. We have a history of winning, and we want Liverpool supporters to know that this approach is what we intend to bring to this great club.”

The Manager
“It’s a very good day for the club,” Hodgson said just before the deal was confirmed. “It’s a relief…it’s been a very difficult couple of weeks.
“There’s no doubt a cloud has been lifted from the football club today.”

The Football
Liverpool will be hoping that a stable boardroom and an investment in new players will quickly bring success back to the club.

The manager, players and fans now have to work together to get the club out of the Premiership relegation zone having taken only six points from seven Premier League matches.

On Sunday they play local rivals Everton who are just one place above them in the league table, on goal difference.

The Premiership
Premiership boards, managers and players got a stark reminder of the consequences of over indulgence throughout the Liverpool debacle.

Clubs nowadays have to curtail exorbitant salaries for existent players and excessive transfer fee requests from the market. Running a football club like any other business, is the only way to survive in the Premiership. That is unless the owner has really deep pockets.

Liverpool FC the most successful British football club can now move forward.
